Here's an image from the meetup last fall as the moon started to peek out from behind the clouds. I took this just a minute or two after Mr. Sieren fell into Mono Lake :).
I'm heading back up to the eastern sierra this weekend for a couple days. If anyone is interested in meeting up, send me an e-mail!

Very nice indeed Mike! I really like how the moon is just peeking above the clouds and shinning through the tufas onto the lake.
I was shooting from right above you guys on the road. But I had no idea Steve went in for a little dip. Hopefully he and camera came out unscathed.

Mike,
I remember that moment well. I'd say Mr. Sieren more like sunk in to Mono Lake... and as a true photographer, he sacrificed and kept his gear high and dry...
Great capture of the moon rising above the clouds. I also remember how I had given up and moved my tripod only to then realize what was happening. I really like that you've emphasized mostly sky here which tells me as the viewer that it was the sky and moonrise that you were after.
Good times had by all, glad you were able to make it up there with everyone.

This is a very nice image. I took a similar shot from the area of the old marina. However, the foreground in my image was significantly darker than yours. What exposure or technique did you use to lighten the foreground while retaining all that detail?
Thanks

Hi Roland,
I used the 'brush' tool in Lightroom, painted in the tufa, and bumped up the exposure by .6EV. The tufa were a bit orange after this, so I reduced orange saturation to compensate.

Hey Mike,
Who fell in? More like swallowed by the mud Once I knew I wasn't going in any further I was in shock for a few seconds. A video on how to escape quick sand flashed into my mind, next time I'm wearing garbage bags for pants.
I remember the shout of here it comes followed by all the shuffling of everyone's equipment. The glow was a nice little warning we had too. I like the way that moon is acting like a spot light lighting up the clouds. The many layers directs the viewers eyes to zig zag across the scene multiple times. I like it, thanks bringing up the fun memory.
I would go with you but I'm heading out into the Southern Eastern Mojave hopefully to find a few new things out there so mostly exploring. You are more than welcome to join for some of it if you would like. On the other hand Mono is a fabulous place and I know your time might be limited in CA so make sure you leave with some good stuff.
Derek, I was fine just STINKY

Exposure and colors look nice top to bottom. I really enjoy the horizontal theme captured here with the cloud and tufa formations. Nice work... keeping Steve out of the picture.
