..atop Mt Jefferson (11,670 ft). Way off in the distance to the SW is Sawtooth Ridge and Matterhorn Peak of the Sierra Nevada Range. The Sweetwater Range is located between CA Hwy 395 and NV Hwy 338, Bridgeport, CA to the south and Wellington, NV to the north. Preston and I were here with a couple of other friends for sunrise about 5 years ago but the wind was blowing about 30+ mph and very, very cold, didn't stay long. Our camp was at the 10,000' level at an abandoned mining area known as Belfort. The route in is strictly 4wd country but well worth the long, slow ride in. I made it back last July for a friend's birthday celebration, we spent 3 days there and a good time was had by all.

"Sweet" image Reno. Preston has been telling me about this place and your image really brings those words home. I hear there were dancing girls and cases of premium scotch for that birthday party.... :-) But seriously... this is a great landscape image. A beautiful sky and I really like how you can see the distant Sawtooth range. Makes me want to make the trek one day... do you think standard, commercial 4x4 would get me there?

I love how the composition including so much sky, and how the clouds play off the foreground. This looks like an awesome place to explore (and one that I've always eyed driving past but never took the time to do so). Any idea about access to this area in the winter ?

Sweet is the first thing that comes to mind after the reading the title. Fantastic image Reno, top of the world shot. It can work as a pano too!
I really enjoy the use of the polarizer and unconventional composition here. I feel as if I've just crested the summit to behold a beautiful grand view. No nits here... well done!

Thanks for the comments guys.
Eric, no filters used.
Greg, winter access would be tough, the access road starts at 6,000'+ and it's probably about 10-12 miles into the camp at 10,000', I'm sure the snow would be heavy most of the way in.
Lon, standard 4wd will work, I take my GMC 1/2 ton to the Belfort campsite, a shorter wb would be better for the climb to the top of the mountain only because of a short section of radical switchbacks just outside of camp.
I hope you don't mind. But I just sent a copy of your photo and caption to my son. He has a 4x4 jeep and I am sure this will inspire him to take his dad on an adventure. Thanks for sharing.

Reno, sounds like a cool place. I'll have to get up there sometime. Nice shot!
