Label Mail Merge Technology

I'm looking around for an easy to use way to design and fill labels and postcards for use on displayed photos (back of mount/frame) and in bin pieces. I really like what Eric "the man" Stensland does with his cards.

Ideally I could do this is LR - select a number of photos, and print them in a desing with my logo/name/website, etc and have the title, caption, and copyright pulled from each image's metadata. I've tried but the text placement options are too rigid in LRs print module.

I've done this before in PS without any metadata merge - just manual design.

Word mail merge may be an option with the LR/transfer plugin to extract metadata to a csv file.

I R a programmer, so I don't mind rolling my own solution, either in LR via lua, or some other scripting stuff, but if someone has a workable solution, I'm always game to not reinvent the wheel.

I'm sure others of my compatriots deal with this. Anyone found a semi-automated approach?

Adobe's InDesign should be able to do this for you, combined with a datasource, but I'm no expert in the use of that software. It is integrated with Bridge, but I'm not sure it has as much integration with LR2.

Thanks Mel. I've used inDesign and had a demo copy, but was unaware it had data merge capability. I'll have to look into it.

I have a full licensed copy of the CS3 version of the software and LR2.6 if you need to stop by and try it. I've really done very limited work with it. The learning curve is pretty steep just like photoshop, but not as intuitive. I'd like to do more, but haven't allocated the time for it. I also have the basic adobe training discs that came with CS3 Design if you would like to borrow them to see how this is done. I'm pretty sure one of topics talks about connecting the InDesign layout to a datasource at a high level. Just drop me a note.
