Hi Craig

Pretty incredible for ISO 4000 and a very nice barn owl habitat shot. Perhaps a slither off the bottom maybe

Cheers

Beautiful image - I wouldn't have even wondered about the iso, but that is pretty amazing.

That's a great way to finish your day. I think I would shave a bit off, especially at the bottom and turn it into a more panoramic frame, but otherwise superb.

This a really atmospheric image and I love the owl floating above the light foreground in the darker area. I would be interested to see a darker version, so it was more representative of twilight, with the upper area becoming nearly featureless and the owl dominating the upper part of the frame. Even a tad of blue or magenta in the colour balance to give that late evening feel. (I might not like it of course, but still interested to see it!).

Lovely shot Craig

I too would take a bit off the bottom but thats just personal opinion

Thank you all for your kind comments   I have posted this image for john macpherson as he asked for a darker one and the image is very real to what I saw at the time with my eyes hence the title 'The Ghost' because I did'nt see the owl at first, and when I did it made me jump  The camera captured it as in the first image with amazing results but I have darkened this image to try and replicate the lack of natural light at the time and cropped it,hope that makes sense  .Thanks all  :wavey:

very nice shots Craig, all the more impressive given the high ISO. I prefer the top one and would also crop a little from the bottom.

Thanks Craig - that looks more 'real' to my eyes! It might seem like splitting hairs, but this is such a beautifully subtly lit image, it might be that the 'best' image is somewhere between the two you've presented. Either way its a lovely lovely shot!

Better with a bit off the bottom Craig - drop the contrast a tad on the owl in the second image and you'll be about right..

A pleasing result at that high ISO and I'm looking forward to seeing my local bird again.. It's just started coming back after a couple of weeks away..

Thanks everyone and I think this one is about in the middle of the two  :wavey:

don't you just love that high ISO capability with the D3/D3s cameras - awesome. This is nice Craig - I actually prefer the first posting as I like the bird higher in the frame myself.

cheers
