Redwings and red berries
It is something that I guess most of us know, red berries tend to dominate any shot that they are in, on the other hand they are a magnet for birds like waxwings and redwings. Redwings have been on my target list for years, and I had even managed a few shots towards the end of last year - but nothing I was prepared to show on here!

Visiting relatives in Woking the other day, I suddenly had the shots I wanted. Unfortunately, many frames are of red berries with a redwing thrown in rather than the other way around. On the other hand, a clear blue sky meant a better background than a busy bush on some shots. This one is, for me, the pick of the bunch.

Happy new year to everybody.

David

Very nice David, the blue background really works and the berry in the beak is the icing on the cake.

A lovely image David. I certainly prefer them perched on a shrub with berries than on the ground. I had one on my Cotoneaster late Sat afternoon but unfortunately there was little light and the french doors were closed. I had the camera all set up on Sun but of course it didn't show
Happy New Year to you. :wavey:

Nice work David and you can even see the detail of saliva in the beak as well. I might be inclined to adjust the gamma in exposure just a little (not much at all) to give the bird that little more punch.

Love it! I failed to nail this kind of shot a few weeks back in Suffolk. One holly bush STUFFED full of redwings and blackbirds. Blackbirds..easy; redwings skittish, flighty, deep in the bush and they all exit from the back of it! Well, I learned a lot about bird behaviour....

A berry nice shot. I managed to get one swallowing a berry some years ago but with a rubbish BG. This is great against the blue.
