Once in a Blue Moon
I went out to the hills north of Simi Valley on New Year's Eve specifically to shoot this oak tree with the rising full moon in the background. The clouds had other plans and I'll have to wait 19 years for the next New Year's Eve blue moon.
Happy New Year,
Rudy

You may not have gotten what you wanted, but this is still a pretty nice shot.

To get the moon to light up a bunch of clouds and not blow out is hard enough.

Is that the backside of white top there on the left?

Nevertheless, this is a very nice image, Rudy. Beautiful light in the sky and a sharp silhouette.

Hey Rudy,
Sorry you didn't get the shot you were looking for, but still a beautiful image.

I'd be thrilled with an image like this.

Thanks for the comments. I'm actually quite happy with this shot, even though it's not what I was planning. Besides, I have plenty of clear sky moon shots, so this was something a little different.

Yet another fine example that just because one's initial plans don't pan out, doesn't mean there won't be another great opportunity to be found. Works for me as presented.

I dunno Rudy, I'm actually kinda partial to this shot! I think its great composition and a great element of mystique! Great job!

Rudy,

This is excellent! Nothing wrong with an obscured moon and I love the tree and surrounding landscape. But what I think is really great is that there is detail throughout the landscape and this isn't a straight silhouette. Wonderful moonrise image!

A beauty Rudy, love the blue, tree and the layers of clouds covering the moon, excellent :toast:

I like what the clouds have done here! This is really nice. The low horizon works well and the cool tones really convey and enhance the mood.
