I shot this Red-tailed Hawk at Ridgefield NWR on 12/22 at what must now be a favorite hunting post for this hawk. He flew off initially after two other cars whizzed by him. I had seen him on this post before so positioned my car about 40 ft from "his post" and he returned after 20 minutes. I beleive this is the same red-tail that Ryan DesJardins posted a few days ago with his gorgeous capture.
If your interested on some nice closeups of this fellow, pick up a River S map at the visitiors info station and approach post #12 slowly, it is after coming out of the wooded area on the SE corner of Rest Lake just where the road turns Left (north). I expect he will be there as long as the hunting is good. Good Hunting yourself!
Man, nice shot! Like the clear eyes and turned head. But, special seeing the blue streaked w/grasses transition to white in blurred b/g.

Nice one Craig. You've got a great pose and nice catchlight in the eye. I think he's becoming an institution there. I'm jealous that you got some blue sky. I think you could warm this up a bit as I see some blue in the breast feathers as well as the numbers on the marker...
I was up there almost every day between Christmas and New Years and never once saw blue sky...a few cloud breaks but nothing much else.
So how do you like the 7D? I've had a lot of fun with it myself. Pretty incredible camera for a "prosumer."
