This was taken a couple of days ago at one of my regualr haunts. I hadn't gone out with any particular subjects in mind, I just wanted to try and capture some low level images of the local wildlife lit by the reflected light coming off the snow.
Nikon D300 with a 200-400mm lens, 1/500th at F4, ISO 500
This reminds me of any one of several Cartier Bresson images where a disparate set of actions & poses somehow manage to meld together to create a pleasing symmetry that is way more than the sum of the individual parts.
The two outermost oof gulls facing left and right, the group of three and the one opposite, and the two tails on the left, all manage to relate to each other, but also blend together to create a lovely base for the one hovering gull.
Maybe not to everyone's taste, but for me, as lover of the chaotic - this works very well indeed.
I'm so glad someone else has posted an image of BHG's - I think they are gorgeous. Overall the scene is a piece of art. I love the way they stand out against that dark background.I'm seeing a little noise in the background.
I love it too. It's one of those images that you keep coming back to and see something different each time. Couple that with superb lighting and this becomes a beauty (well in my eyes anyway!).

great poses and lighting, composition works well too, just wonder if you couldn't darken the background a bit using curves or levels which would enhance the image in my view and hopefully reduce the effect of the noise in the background in the process
that's a very nice image. I keep looking at it trying to work out what it is that I like so much. I think it's the low POV combined with the various positions of the birds. It works well.

Composition of the bird in flight gives this image its strength IMO,the remaining birds add to a simply, but wonderful image

This shot sings. Very nice indeed. Great characterful subjects too...also it doesn't look setup in anyway which is how I prefer images.

I really like this image. The inclusion of the younger bird is really good. Sharp but with a definite sense of motion and 'busyness'.
Local patch for thrills!
