Hi,
I commented a lot on others postings last yr but was too scared to bite the bullet and post myself, largely because I'm not sure I'm good enough to keep company with some of you. Here's my first effort, be nice.

Brian, great first post, you have certainly got the right idea, making the bird stand out with the back/foreground out of focus, very good light on robin. keep em coming
Welcome to the forum Brian.
Nicely isolated against the dark background, I think I might have cloned out the piece of grass in front of the bird and cropped a bit off the right of the image.

There is a lot about this to like, you have a low pov and robins are always appealing subjects. Next time try to get the bird looking a little more towards you. Look forward to seeing some more.

Welcome .Nice debut and well done for having a go .I'm sure you wont be too 'scared' after your initial dip. The idea is right with focus isolation and getting at eye level with the subject .A slight head turn ( towards camera ) would aid things along with the removal of the grass stalk .( physically not choppin it .)
The bird would be best shot perched off the deck on a branch or stalk .Keep em coming .
