I just ordered this lens and I know many of you who use Canon own this one as well. I am just wondering, in your experience, what is the aperture that produces the sharpest images with this lens? Also, is there anything else I should know about this lens?
Thanks so much.

Traditionally, in 90% of the cases, f/5.6 in the center is sharpest, center to edge, f/8 - f/11 is sharpest. With diffraction stealing acuity near f/10 and past on APS-C sensors and f/13 and past on Full Frame (ie shooting at f/22 for max DOF sharpness may be "chewed up" by the effects of diffraction given the angle of light hitting the sensor array)

Michael, I've used this lens for several years, and its most striking advantage is the smooth background blur it can achieve at f2.8 (which is probably one of the reasons you bought it).
To my eye, the way the subject "pops" in those images is more important than a tiny gain in technical sharpness at, say, f8.

Enjoy the lens. It's a beauty!
