Hi David & all it's not that expensive to repair as all the big sigma primes & zooms are designed with sheer point to prevent excessive damage to both lens and camera, after getting home yesterday afternoon and having a quick look at the damage I ordered the necessary parts.
Having a metal working lathe and milling machine with a few other engineering bits I repared the damage to the back of the lens by removing the broken studs, when my parts arrived this morning all I had to do was reassembled the 20 or so bits and hey presto I was out using it again this morning, of course I can only do so much if it needed a more extensive repair I would have too had sent it in to sigma UK.

Nice lapwing and good news about the lens - not too many of us will have the lathe and milling machine around the house I suspect!

A very nice Lapwing Phil and the lens repair work sounds pretty impressive too
Nice image Phil but I'm even more impressed with the repair job. I've only got a 2lb lump hammer, a Stanley saw and a pair of pliers but if anyone has a broken lens for me to practice on ........ I'll give it a bash !!!
