OK, any Nikon users tried to update their firmware from my previous post?

I downloaded and unzipped but can't find a program to run the unzipped file...

Camera = D700

Windows 7, 64 bit is supposed to be supported.

Suggestions. I can't find WinZip...???

I can try Nikon but that's slow and sometimes not to the point.

You can try downloading a free "trial" program called bitzipper. After the trial period it's still usable, it just gives you annoying ads when you try to close it. I haven't tried updating yet because I don't know where my cable is. Could I possibly put the files on the CF card and update that way? Or do I need to connect it via the USB cable?

My superficial understanding is you can use a card.

Haven't done it in a while and not with the 700, but check the Nikon site carefully for procedures to update firmware. And yeah, it involves the card. Basically you load from the computer onto your card, put the card in the camera, then run the camera's onboard software to install the update. And if you mess up, it used to mean sending the camera to Nikon to sort it out. I'd hope that's not the case any more, but I'd still RFIC..... Read and Follow Instructions Carefully.

Thanks - I'll probably try this tonight for my D300s and report back.

Just looked at the update - I don't need any of those things so I'm going to pass.

I've updated my Nikon D300 twice. Could either use a card or do it in camera.

Detailed and tedious instructions esp. when doing something once or twice in several years but it went well.

The d700 seems to have different instructions. Heck, I can't even unzip the file..........

Will have my son look at it. He's more "oriented" than me.
