Female Northern Harrier (Circus cyaneus), Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge
Canon 7D, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4 TC, 1/250 sec @ f/4.5, ISO 640. December 20, 2009.
I mis-identified this as a Red-Tailed Hawk at first, but soon realized that wasn't right...
This is a heavy crop, probably around 50%. Still, the 7D held the detail. I am also impressed at the lower noise at higher ISO. One trade off is that even at ISO 100, there's more noise than the Canon 1D, and way more than the 1Ds...
The auto focus on the 7D is incredible, far better than the 1D or 1Ds mark IIIs, which, in my opinion just plain suck--worst autofocus of any camera I've ever had, even from my film days...

Great Harrier capture David. I love the detail and colors on the harrier with the OOF fore and BG's.
I am also loving the 7D for all the benefits you mention.

Hi David,
That is a fine capture with befitting visual elements all around.
One major issue on my calibrated IPS monitor, at least, is that the color balance is heavily skewed towards magenta. I dropped a screen capture into Lightroom and the corrected WB has a -27 away from magenta towards green on the tint, and -2 away from yellow towards blue on the temp.

Michael, that's strange, I'll check it out on my calibrated monitor later tonight...thanks for the note.

Thanks to Michael for pointing out the magenta cast to this image. I am color-deficient (hate saying color blind), and this one got past me...Here's a repost with the cast corrected.

Harriers are not easy to get a close shot of; good job!
