This time with the added bonus of a little sunshine to help lift the gloom.
There's literally thousands of these little things on the estate at the moment. Milder temperatures under the oak, beech and rhododendron woodlands we have here and loads of rising springs help to keep the population healthy and able to spike the ground for insects.
Taken using the handlebars of a quad for a rest (if I try to get off to get a lower angle shot they take flight)

Came across one feeding in a roadside ditch yesterday while we where out walking - and then flushed another 2 snipe a bit further along the road. Seems they're having to work hard to find food.
Looks good light John. Sounds like you'll have to work on 'slithering' sideways off the quad tho ...
Lovely image John. Coincidentally Nick, I saw a woodcock in a ditch along our lane this week and there have been 4 or 5 snipe further along the lane in another ditch all this week. They flush every time we have to drive past. Its about the only place with some running water and hence the ground is softer. Will be trying for a few images tomorrow morning.
