Frozen wetlands
We finally had sunshine and manageable wind in central Kansas, the first time this year. I went out to Cheyenne Bottoms, a major wetlands in the center of Kansas. Everything is frozen solid. I was mostly wanting to test out my new 7D, and finally got some decent results. The blob in the upper right is a grain elevator, several miles away, lost to compression. No rolling hills in this part of Kansas, just the stereotypical flat Kansas. The sun had just set when I took this image, which is a 2 photo blend.

Hey Rob, I like the shot.. It shows the desolation of the Bottoms and the scope of the size of the area. The elevator adds to the vastness of the shot. The reeds sticking through the snow give a texture and shadows to the shot. This morning is the first time all week that we haven't had strong winds. But, with the high only going up to 10 - I'm still going to stay inside.

Rob, I like how the foreground snow provides an anchor for the shot and, all the play of shadow & highlight on the ice in the soft light of sunset. Well done.
