After a few years of using the supplied paper cutter I noticed bad cuts and replaced the cutter with a new Epson paper cutter. There are two issues going on after the replacement. First, I am seeing a lot of paper particles around the cutter area, something that wasn't a problem with the original cutter. Secondly, and probably related is that while making prints I am getting what I call "dust specks" in the prints and these are random from one print to another. Sometimes the prints are fine and yet the next one will have these specks.
Even though the paper I use (USFAP) is not recommended for the auto cutter, I had used it for years with no issues other than knowing I would have to replace the cutter more often. After installing the new cutter the results are worse! I'm now getting so much garbage around the cutter that I think this is causing the Specks.
No personal knowledge. Have you looked at the cutter blades, if possible, of the new blades with a magnifying glass? And then the same for the older blades? Perhaps you have a knick or knicks in the new blades that are causing micro tears instead of clean cutting. Garbage around the cutter just couldn't be a good thing. And combine that with the specs in your prints, then that certainly looks like what is going on.

I quit using the cutter on the 7800 for that and other reasons. You have to keep your print head pristine and free of all dust particles. I forget where we got it, but unless the printer is in use it is covered with a custom fit cover. You might also see if you are getting occasional print head strikes. When I went to Hahnemuhle baryta FA I had to raise the print head to avoid random scratches and spots.

I recommend not using the paper cutter, whether it works well or not. The paper dust created by the cutter eventually makes its way to the print head and either creates a clog, or a white spot on the print, or both. The saving in time from having the printer cut the paper is not justifiable when it causes wasted prints and clogged printhead. It's better to cut the paper by hand.

Any one had the same conditions?
