Tetons in winter
Hi everyone. I just returned from a too-short trip to the Tetons and thought I'd share a few images. We had two excellent mornings of shooting with good light and favorable weather conditions aside from the extremely cold temps. I've had the chance to process most of my favorite images and have posted them here: http://www.brettdeacon.com/gallery.php?gallery=TetonsJanuary2010. All were taken with my Sony a900 camera. I rented the Zeiss 135 f1.8 lens for the trip and will cry like a baby when I have to send it back this week.

Thanks for looking. Comments, critiques, etc. are welcome.

Brett

P.S. - I'm looking forward to the shindig!

Wow, great collection, Brett!! I love the B&Ws, and 577 is killer! 583 is a killer shot too, but i think you can take down the midtones a bit so the range is similar to 577.

This is fantastic. Love that color palette and the original comp. Great work all around.

Outstanding shots Bret. Its nice to see a different take on Oxbow Bend. Cold weather can produce some pretty nice stuff.

An exquisite collection, Brett. WOW! :toast:

I LOVE those morning light pastels. It's impossible to choose a favorite, although #583 and the one posted above stand out for me.

The last two times that I visited the Tetons in the winter, we had solid overcast for days and never even saw the peaks. That really makes one appreciate special mornings such as these.

Wow! This is a fantastic image. A very different view on the Tetons that you normally see.

Your whole gallery has some great shots in it. Looks like a great trip. Thanks for sharing.

Yowza! What a fantastic collection of images! I've never understood how it can be that cold, yet there's still open water. Mr. Science, if you're out there, help me out here!

Sweeet. I love the image you posted here and the one in your gallery right after this one. This is a slightly different angle than we normally see at this location and I really like it. Looks like it was well worth enduring the cold temperatures to get the images in your gallery. Nicely done.

What everyone else said. Wow! Very nice set. :toast: It does appear that #577 and #583 will have the most appeal to the masses.

Ditto for the lead-in and 577......and all the rest. Really standout work here, Brett. :toast:

Thanks for the feedback everyone! There seems to be a clear consensus on the two favorites, which is interesting because nobody has mentioned my personal favorite (#582). Todd, I'm with you - I can't imagine how the Snake RIver doesn't entirely freeze over freeze in the extreme cold up there. I'm glad it doesn't though as the steam makes for some great photo opportunities, even during midday when the sunlight hits the water and increases the amount of steam.

Wow - these are incredible! Fantastic work, Brett. It's hard to pick a favorite since they are all stunning. I would say it is a tie between 589 and 583. :toast:

Dang, I should have chimed in earlier. I was really gonna say 582. This post and 577 are also my favorites. Quite a collection of wonderful images you returned with, Brett.

A little late to the party here, but I agree with the others- WOW! Makes me want to jump in the car and head north-RIGHT NOW! I'm curious how a B&W treatment would look with #594-love the lines in the clouds. Spectacular collection!

Sweet! Having just spent a week there and seeing the mountains only a few hours one day am super jealous. That cold front cleared things out nicely and created some frosts and steam!
