"BUCK-BUCK NUMBER ONE!"
Anyone here old enough to know where that title comes from?

Here's a follow-up to last week's post. I found a lot of variety on this very interesting morning.

#1: Here's a frosty mule deer buck.

#2: And here's Humboldt Peak and the Crestones. It was a bit of a struggle, since the cloud bank meant that the closer I got to the mountains, the sooner they disappeared. That meant hanging back and shooting with a telephoto, which introduced a lot of problems, especially lots of UV haze.

#3: Humboldt from a different vantage point.

#4: And another slightly different look at Humboldt.

#5: My favorite pinnacle in the Wet Mountains.

#6: Finally, one taken the evening before all the others. I cropped a little off the top and bottom to concentrate on the key elements of the image.

#7: Oops! One more. You can see how the hazy blue light was wreaking havoc. But I think it still looks pretty cool, literally and figuratively.

Really nice buck image. I also really like the final image and the black and white. The foggy peaks combined with the foreground elements are wonderful, especially in #7.

Speaking of black and white, I seem to remember some lyrics from a Type O Negative song, that went something like "black, black, black number one." I guess they were one of the original "goth" bands long before vampires became so popular. Does that mean I'm getting old because I remember this?

That's not it, Joshua. Nice try though.

Very nice Todd. #3 and 7 are ones that I like the best. Tough break with the haze, but you have done well with what you had to work with.

Buck Buck. That's a game I have not played in a long time.

At least I don't feel so old now.

#7 is pretty cool, if you know what I mean!

I like #1, #5 and #7 the best, what a great morning with a variety of conditions.

Very nice, 2 is definitely well represented in monochrome.

The first, second and last image are awesome, Todd! I'm particularly fond of the b&w. Good work, dude!

Great collection. I like the frosted affect on everything.

I seem to remember that title used in an old Bill Cosby sketch.
Nice collection of images. The haze is killing us here in Utah Valley- Literally. Our air quality has been rated worst in the nation, thanks to the inversion.

You got it, Michael! The great Bill Cosby was where I first heard that phrase.
Posted by Paul DeCesare on January 11, 2010 at 3:18 PM
LOL! I had that album! Bill Cosby's Revenge. "That was perty guud, but we usually hold about 600, ha ha ha!"

I must have listened to that album 48 million times.

Great images! And thanks for the memory!

Geez, man that was the motherload! The buck works great because of the frosty BG, and the landscapes are pretty outrageous - esp. 2,5 and 7. How's the detail at actual size and how many Mb's is a RAW file?

Todd, based on results, you had quite a day. Congrats. 1,2, 7 get my votes.

Beautiful shots, Todd! I really like the second one. Maybe consider hiking up the contrast, especially in the peaks?

I dig #1, 2, and 7. I think the telephoto is great here... shows the enormity of the peaks.

Great buck shot, and the diagonal ridge line in the last one is an awesome way to frame the mountains

Todd, I like the comp of both 2 and 7. Its nice seeing different perspectives a nice zoom shot can bring to often photgraphed mountains. #7 in particular could be interesting as a fall shot and golden aspens instead of pine. There's got to be a few places in that area that would offer up that kind of zoom shot.

Killer shots Todd - especially #1 and #2. :toast:

All nice shots Todd, but my favs are 1,5 and 7. Can't remember the Bill C thing though...even though i am not a young buck anymore.
Posted by Morris McClung on January 11, 2010 at 5:47 PM
I was just late to the party, 'cause I am old enough to remember Bill Cosby's routine on that. HIlarious. Your buck shot is pretty perfect. Great catch. For the others it's 7 and then 3. All are excellent work though.

3 and 7 and rest ain't bad either. And I love the square format on 3. Great stuff, Todd.

Like that mule deer with frost on the back and on the vegetation in the background.

I'd hang #7 in a 40"-wide print on my wall easily. Superb.

Great series! 2,3, and 7 are awesome.
BTW--check your email

All are top quality, as usual. My favs are 2 and 7.

All are great, but number seven is my favorite, just spectacular.
