Hi folks,

I was wondering if anyone here would be interested in joining me on a backpacking trip to San Jacinto for some winter photography and a summit attempt? I'm thinking a one or two nighter via the Palm Springs Tram, following a fresh snowfall. If you're interested please contact me and we can work out the details.

Sounds like fun to me! I have always wanted to go up there and it's not far away at all.

San Jacinto after a snow storm would be awesome. If it snows and I'm not working I'd be down for a quick trip out there.

There's a disturbance moving through this week and on the weekend but I'm not sure it will be strong enough to drop the amount of snow you guys will need to add suffering to your art.

Remember San Jacinto is over 10,000 feet though much more accessible than San Gororgonio or San Antonio. I'm just an OFM so I can only dream of going right now.

Did you guys ever hear about the backpacker that got lost up there, they found his body exactly one year after he presumed missing. (a link would be so helpful right now)

I haven't heard of that particular one, but there are many people even experienced hikers that have gotten themselves croaked in our local mountains. Most of them were hiking alone (even on well traveled trails) so Josh I can see why your looking for a buddy to accompany you good idea. Winter hikes can be even more dangerous adding ice, subzero windchill and avalanches to the equation. However just like those that don't swimming with seals don't get eaten, a little common sense goes a long way.

My wife and I snowshoed from the tram to the summit a few years back. It was great fun and I'd love to spend a night out there and bring the photo gear. Hopefully we'll get a decent storm soon and we can do it!

If your planning your trip for the Martin Luther King Holiday I suggest not. Apparently "The baby" has returned El Nino. It's predicted to rain most of that week 5 to 6 inches on the coastal plain and over 10 in the foothills. I don't know what the snow level will be but I think the drought may be finally be broken in fine style. Well California style. Maybe after the series of storms are over, there should be more snow than anyone can possibly enjoy. The storm tomorrow will not drop as much and ol' Baldy doesn't have much snow on the top now. Can't see San Jacinto from Long Beach.
