Red Fox(Vulpes vulpes)- Essex, UK.
Nikon 300D, 200-400/f4 @ 380mm, WH2 + Gitzo 1540.
Manual exposure mode f8, 1/1250, iso 400.
RAW image processed in Capture One; sharpened in Photoshop CS4, full frame.
Anyone familiar with the behaviour of foxes will recognise this territorial “parallel-walking” behaviour that male foxes engage in on the edges of their territories during December, just before the start of the mating season. I was fortunate to get this shot just before Christmas when the weather in my local area provided both interesting ground conditions and good light.

hi phil
stunning pic of fox, just great, coat/tail looks in great condition, with wonderful colour, and a real bonus with the snow setting, certainly looks a large male from your picture ?, normally these are very nervous indeed

He really is strutting his stuff. Great glare too!
Great shot in terms of capturing this behaviour. Can't make my mind up about the sky but to be honest it is probably immaterial considering the subject matter.
I'm off to buy a fox suit and practise my parallel walking!!
Cheers,
Chris

An amazing image of fox behaviour, very well captured. I am not sure that the frame adds anything to it, but that is probably just a matter of personal taste.
Great shot of an interesting aspect of behaviour, have to agree with MD about losing the sky

Brillant pose captured and the light has brought out the wonderful colours of the fox,I would get rid of the sky as it does take your eye away from this beautiful fox you have caught
