Last fall there were several folks that expressed an interest in adopting a section of the Ozark Highlands Trail. At the time, the section between the low water bridge over Falling Water Creek and Richland Creek campground was open. When I submitted my application to adopt that section, the OHT secretary was out of town and was unable to pick up the mail each day. A week or so after my application was placed in the mailbox, another application from the Arkansas Geocachers came in, requesting the same section. Since their application was on top of mine, it was opened first, so they were given the section. Without going into a lot of detail about the geocachers, the situation remains the same.
Roy Senyard (OHT Maintenance Supervisor) has graciously offered another section to us, from Richland Creek campground to Drury Hollow (3.7 miles). I have not walked the section yet, but according to Tim's description in the OHT Guidebook, it sounds pretty nice. I can't imagine any part of the trail following Richland Creek would not be nice.
So, the first thing I need to know is if there is anyone interested in adopting this section, and if so, I need to know if you have joined OHTA. Non-members are more than welcome to help maintain the trail, but I will need to give Roy those names, who relays the information to the Forest Service so that you are covered as a volunteer for insurance purposes.
If there is still interest in doing this, we need to decide on a date to get out there and maintain our section before it starts warming up. How about January 30th?

I am not a member of the OHTA, but I would like to help. I have a 4WD pickup, tools, and a Polaris Ranger 4X4. I know these are not allowed on the trail, but they might come in handy otherwise. I would be willing to do whatever you needed me to do. Just let me know.

Thanks for the update Bill. I have joined the OHTA and would like to participate in trail maintenance, preferably as part of a CSNP group. Unfortunately I am working 6 days a week (Monday through Saturday) until the end of March. I am willing to go out on Sundays to perform maintenance.

Bill,
I am not a member either, but would love to help also. I am free on the 30th as far as I know.

Great! Thanks to all for your reply. Since the 30th is not going to work for John and Tom, maybe we could shoot for the 17th (this Sunday) or the 24th. I'll go ahead and contact Roy to let him know that we'll take the section I mentioned. CSNP will be the official adoptor.
I think this will be a great way to thank all those who worked so hard to build this trail, and look forward to many years of working with you folks to keep our section clear. Thanks again everyone.

Both the 17th and 24th work for me.

Bill I may be able to make it one of those days. Not sure yet though, you may want to include me in your message to Roy in case I can make it.

Bill, the 24th may be my best day, but make your plans based on what the majority can do.

The weather forecast is calling for 4 days of showers next week in Deer, so I'm thinking this Sunday might be the best time to do some trail work.
Let's try to meet at the entrance to the Richland Creek campground at 8:00. I'll have loppers and blazes etc. to do the necessary work. All you'll need to bring is your lunch, some water, good hiking boots and some gloves. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone! If possible, please let me know by Saturday night if you plan to join us.
Anyone coming through Russellville Sunday morning willing to meet me there and give me a ride up?

I am leaving from Russellville. If you don't have a criminal background, or some other troublesome issue, you can ride with me. Can anyone vouch for you? On second thought, nobody can vouch for me.
