Not a happy camper.
Never corner a badger. Moments after taking this image all heck broke loose.

Tell us about it, Don!

Would love to hear the story. My husband & our lab had a run-in with one of these years ago. The badger lost. If she hadn't, our lab would have :frown:

Badgers are tough foes! Witness what they did in the Champs Bowl against the Miami Hurricanes!

Badgers? We don' tease no stinkin Badgers!

Angela, that must be one big mean nasty labrador. I've seen badgers on several occasions completely thrash a coyote. One of the surliest creatures on the planet.

Now let's see the "after" pics.

Bill: our lab didn't do the badger in. My husband's shotgun did. He & the dog were out walking a pasture (pheasant hunting) and the badger came out of nowhere and charged them. She was headed straight for our dog (who unfortunately, was gaping about and didn't seem to take much notice - think of Garfield's clueless fido friend Odie). My husband had enough time to get off a couple of shots. If he had missed, the dog would have been toast, and who knows what damage would have been inflicted on him. I wouldn't want to tangle with a badger - they are all teeth & claws, and they have a nasty personality to match. Let's hope Don tells the tale of his experience, and that he's ok.

Angela, thanks for your concern I only lost two toes in the battle  Actually we came out of it unharmed stirred but not shaken. We were looking for Mule Deer in Wyoming when we came upon this critter. We were as surprised as he/she was. What brought it to our attention was a loud hissing sound. I was able to get positioned for a shot just before he came flying out at us. I got one more image of him coming out with his claws extended.
We took off and he stopped charging. This was my fourth encounter with badgers over the years and probably one of the most exciting. I would post the other image but I guess you can only post one in a 24 hour period.

Bill the badger was located up by Pinedale.

Nice shots Don. Those claws look nasty. Glad to hear you escaped unharmed.
