We’re looking for an image to use for the banner for the soon to be updated CANP site.
So, Harley and I decided to run a contest for the new banner pano image!
Your CANP moderators will choose two images. The First Place winner’s image will be added to the banner on March 1st., and will remain there July 30th.. The Second Place image will then replace the first one, and will be displayed on the banner until December 31st, 2010.
You can view the new design of the CANP home page here
Here are the particulars…Please read carefully:
**Entries will be accepted through February 15, 2010
**Each active participant at CANP may post two (2) pano images.
**Images must be of subjects located in CA
**Images must meet NPN posting guidelines.
**Color or B&W, film or digital capture images will be accepted
**The images must be posted to the CANP forum, as follows:
*Each entry must be posted as a separate topic (thread).
*The text, “CANP Banner” must be in the subject line.
*Each image posted must be 705px wide by 140px in height.
*Please; no frames, borders, or text
**NPN staff members are not eligible.
Your CANP moderators will select the two top images from qualifying entries.
Winners will be notified via e-mail, and an announcement will be posted to the CANP forum on Friday, February 19, 2010.
Photo credit and Copyright notice will be given for each winning image, and will appear on the new CANP home Page.
Prizes will be awarded for the winning images!
**First Place: One Year Membership at NPN and one custom printer paper profile from GreatPrinterProfiles.com.
The contest idea is great. I am wondering, however, why such a strong favor for only ESS style pictures? Our state offers ample opportunities where Man-and-Nature type images would be just as representative.
That's a good point. Harley and I can see no reason to exclude Man and Nature images.
The announcement has been edited to reflect the change.
Thanks for your note.-P & H

Hey awesome idea, great to see some lures for a more active participation at CANP. I might be able to get a free large print for the winner?
I'm going to miss that lenticular cloud on the current banner.

A contest is a wonderful idea, and I have some panorama images that I might like to enter or photo's Icould crop a pano out of, but I'm having a hell of a time getting the 705 by 140 pixel size. That's an awfully long and thin image. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

New page looks great!

I know the image is long and narrow, but I did not want to take up a lot of page space with the header.

Are the Banner posts open to regular comments from CANPers? I don't want to ball up the contest.

Michael, your entries would be most welcome. You could do a paper profile for yourself should you be so lucky as to win the grand prize.
What if I host the image on my server, is there still a limit?
The once per day limit still would apply to posting of images in a new thread.
