I have downloaded and unzipped the compressed file to a .bin file for my Nikon D700.
This firmware is labeled 1.02 and was releast several days ago.
I could not do anything else other than the .bin file so I contacted Nikon.
This was their reply:
HI
Thanks for the question. Please make sure you are carefully following the update instructions as failure to do so can damage the camera. The .bin file is placed on the memory card and used to update the camera itself - no further opened or modification is done to the .bin file. Thanks

Question, esp. with the caution of camera damage:
Is theis the procedure? Format my camera card, put it into a card reader, then drag the .bin file to the card, then load the cared into the camera and turen the camera "on"? If so the camera takes care of the rest of the upgrade??
Sorry but Nikon instructions don't do much for me, a computer illiterate....
Yes, that's the proper way to upgrade the firmware on any digital camera. Place the .bin file at the main (root) level of the card, then insert the card into the camera and turn the camera on. Sometimes, the vendor asks that a specific switch be set (for image viewing instead of shooting, for example) before the camera's turned on.

It really upsets me that Nikon cannot have a person with the command of the English language answer questions from USA Nikon users. Thanks for the post and the answers as I have a D700 and would not have known about the firmware upgrade. Yea NPN!

Help and/or suggestions appreciated.

Guess what--it didn't work.
Thanks for the other suggestions. I'll get my update installed.
I had a Lexor cable for the CF card and they said not to use that one. Spent more bucks for a card reader and that should let me proceed.
thanks for the time to read and comment. the fisch
Upgrade completed and different from the previous D300 updates. Actually easier once it has been done once.
