Bald headed Eagle
More images from my "backyard" series, this time of the feathered variety. In and around Longmont there are a few Eagle nesting areas, Osprey's, and Golden Eagles. In fact when I was shooting the Barn (last post) a Golden flew overhead, had the wrong camera/lens combo though.

I spotted this Eagle just sitting in a tree on the West side of town, I was fortunate enough to also see him hunting over a field and get some shots off.

Excellent, Nick! I especially like the wing blur in #2. Also keeping that white head shaded really helps with the exposure.

Oh man, these are SICK! Great job, Nick!

Nice capture Nick. Looks like that 100-400 is a very sharp lens.

Wow great shots Nick. I'm headed to the Mississippi river tomorrow to the Lock and Dam's to hopefully get some eagle shots.

I've heard there are some pretty good places around Longmont, but I've never found out where to go.

Well done Nick. Some of the feathers in 1 and 2 look a little hot on my monitor. 3 and 4 look excellent. Looks like it is time to submit a request to the wife and see if you can upgrade to a nice prime.

Nice, these are all pretty good but #2 really sticks out. It's one of those images that will make people say "Wow."

Great shots! #2's got the best moment, but I also like the detail and lighting of the last two.

Nick,

You need to publish a book on Longmont! Seriously!

Sweet "bald eagle" shots!

What a series Nick! That first one is very regal, and #2 just rocks with the motion in the wings and then the sharpness in the head / body. Very cool!

Terrific shots Nick. I am partial to numbers 1 &2. Was this out around Golden Ponds?

Wow, those are good stuff! I really like 3 and 4. Exquisite light and detail.

Wow, those are great. You must have been pretty close to get frame fillings shots like these with only a 100-400 plust the 1.6x of the 50D. In the lower 48, I usually use a 600+1.4x on a full frame body in the hopes of getting the eagle only have as large as what you show here.

These are fantastic captures! I really like #1.
