Let me know when you post a shot of a beautiful turkey vulture, 'cause that one looks pretty fugly!
Hey Bill, these are really nice shots. It's killing me, because you guys are going out and making ducks and "just" Canada geese look incredible. I just got back from taking a walk over at Runyon Lake here in Pew-town, and I was looking at all the birds on the ice and in the water, thinking to myself, "How do those guys make these ordinary birds look so great?" And then I come home to this post. Gee, thanks a lot!

tons of hard work and a minute amount of inspiration I guess Todd plus some luck. As somebody once said "the harder I work at it the luckier I get!"
it helps that we love what we do too...
you make me laugh! thanks for that!

These are all from one day? If so wow, what a amazing collection.
Really top-shelf stuff here, Bill. Prettiest vulture ever (how'd you get that close? Were you wearing a dead animal on your head?) The BE in flight is great and thanks for labeling the hawk captive.
Excellent portraits in 1 and 2. As Dave mentioned earlier, were you wearing a dead animal, or was there another trick? C'mon, spill the beans.

That turkey vulture is beautiful! Love the reds and nice details in the blacks!

I do owe you all an apology, the vulture was captive also and I forgot to note it. No I didn't have a dead skunk on my head! Let's face it finding a wild vulture around here right now would be tough! Did you know they find their food (carrion) by smell? Amazing!
One more pic from late today, I headed to Latham Reservoir to see the sunset views of the Short-eared Owls and they were amazing but virtually impossible to shoot even at ISO 6400! I did get some good red-winged blackbird shots before the sun went down though.
The hawk shot is fantastic. What lens are you using?
