Color in Winter
Not to take anything away from the wonderful landscapes and avian photos posted lately... but I thought I would post one from my expansive collection of dahlia images from last year. My folders average 500-600 images taken - couldn't believe the numbers when I took a look the last week or so cleaning up my database. I'm a self admitted waterfall and flower junkie! Anyway - just thought a little color might brighten everyone's day.

Nice work, you flower junkie you  Dahlias are one of my favorite flowers too.

Seriously, the muted, soft light really saturates the colors. The shallow DOF works well with this one. Nice capture, Ned.

Thanks Ned, with all the rain and grey, I needed a hit of color.
Nice lighting and delicate color. Dahlias are so photogenic.

Fantastic colors Ned, I look forward to visiting the Dahlia farm again this spring. I enjoy viewing your floral shots as they usually have a fresh, artistic view. Thanks for brightening up my rainy week.

This is interesting. I think dahlias lose some of their magnificence because they come in such a rush. So many at once can start to weaken their impact. This one really sings. Not just because it is beautiful and a spot on photo, but also because it gets to stand more alone this time of year.

I especially like that crystal clear center, with the focus fading into the background.

Thanks so much... the dahlias have been pretty profitable for me so far..
