Thought I'd share an image from outside the Pacific Northwest...
We spent the first week of November in Southern Utah, hoping for fall color. Zion was great as always, but the colors were muted this year, and the conditions kinda sucked for landscape photography--harsh daylight, strong winds...
So we headed to Bryce Canyon one day--wind can't do much to move those spires. This was taken late in the day as the sun was dropping down over the horizon. I was going for a mood, but some might think it's a bit too dark...Comments and critiques appreciated.

Wow, web compression really kills this image...here's a larger version

David,
I really like this. The lighting is very cool. It compliments the stripes in the formation.
I think this is pretty sensational, David! It's a very dramatic and unique look at Bryce. Love the spot lit spires; I think you achieved what you hoped in terms of mood, too. Way to go.

I remember seeing this before David, and really liking it... the lighting hitting part of the formation and not all is pretty cool...

It always amazes me how photos close down and get darker when reduced for NPN resolution. I'm glad you posted the larger version, it is much easier to see the details.
I agree with the above; the light hitting selectively makes this special.
