Hawk ID
Help with this ID please, Cooper's Hawk or Sharp-shinned?

I'll put some pics plus the remains of the prey bird!

I'm going out on a limb on this one... I'd argue for a subadult Sharp-shinned Hawk. There are still the white patches in the wings, and the eye is just going red and not really bright red yet. All that argues for a sub-adult, just short of adulthood. The tail is more square than round, and fairly short, and has only two white bars. And the impression of the head is small. All of which argues for Sharpie to me. But I could very easily be wrong...

Bill, I'd feel pretty confident about calling this a Sharpie. Most important, the tail is square (outer tail feathers essentially the same length as the central ones), and the bird is quite small--not much bigger than the magpie behind it. Also, the dark nape and relatively spindly legs are good marks for a sharp-shin.

Thanks, I was fairly sure it was a Sharpie since it was smaller than the last Cooper's that I saw. But I haven't had a Sharpie in my back yard before so that is great. Nice looking bird too!
Not sure the birds on my feeder would agree though!
