i managed to break my Gitzo tripod before chrimbo. cost to repair is quite high and my budget for replacement is very limited at the moment, but i need to get a tripod ASAP.
does anyone have experience of Giottos tripods, as they do a carbon fibre model GTMTL8361B, which is at a really good price. and looking at the specs will support my 1DMKIII and 500F4. max load is 8KG.
The Feisol tripods are worth a look, perhaps the 3372 or 3342 models?

Well Mark, I recently bought a Feisol Tournament tripod, and all I can say is that it's BRILLIANT! Well worth a look and very well made in my opinion, and supports more than 8kg. Plus it lies totally flat! I hope this helps.

I also use Fesiol (3372), it's very good in all respects other than the legs mark very easily with scratches from grit and sand, so keep it nice and clean to keep it working smoothly.
What did yo break on the Gitzo that's so bad? I've replaced various parts of mine myself and its not a huge problem. All the bits are easily available.
