I'm looking for new Arkansas Waterfalls

I'm working on an update to the Arkansas Waterfalls Guidebook and will be adding some new waterfalls. I have a long list already to visit and pick from, but I wanted to see if anyone here knows of any that you think might be worthy of including. The only real criteria is that they absolutely must be on public land (and not just on land that happens to be not posted, or paper company land, or land that someone told you it was OK to visit). Otherwise I'm looking for the tallest, widest, and/or most interesting waterfalls to include. There are thousands of waterfalls in Arkansas that are not in the guidebook, and I'm sure hundreds of really great ones - the guidebook just picks the best ones, and that is what I want to add - more of those.

If interested in submitting some for review, just send me an e-mail with any info you have - location, directions, GPS, a photo, etc. I will visit any that look interesting and will photograph, measure, draw a map, and write up specific directions for any that end up in the book - plus if I don't already have that waterfall on my list I will try to mention your name in the text if there is room. The new guidebook won't be out until later in the fall.

I think we're going to have a great waterfall season later this winter and into spring!

We passed by one that might have some potential Sunday while working on the OHT between Richland Creek campground and Drury Hollow. Since you mention some waterfalls in your OHT guidebook, you have probably already seen this one. Matthew K. and John M. went down for a closer look , and I think John probably saved the coordinates.

Thanks for the info Bill. I pretty much have everything along the OHT already included that I wanted. There are literally hundreds of other waterfalls within short hikes of the trail - one of the very best hiking trails in the United States for waterfalls for sure!

Have you ever seen Stave Mill Falls along the Moccasin Gap horse trails? I haven't been there in years but it is a nice waterfall that empties into a decent sized pool. Horses, mountain bikes and atv's are allowed, which may be a turn off for some.

Does this I have to, I mean get to buy a new waterfall book?

Hey Matthew, that is one that folks have been trying to get me to add for several years, but since I can't stand to hike in horse crap I have hesitated. I may see about an alternate route.

There are four different versions of the waterfall guidebook so far, each one a little bit different, although this next one will add an entire section of new waterfalls. I guess it just depends if you want the new info in book form or not - the reason to continue to update these guidebooks is to get folks the latest and most recent info, but then I've got a map of Arkansas from the 1920s that I still use sometimes that is very interesting (but I have the latest and greatest state map too)...

I guess you could add it and warn everyone about the possibility of horse crap. Being four wheeler accessible could possibly allow people that may have mobility issues the chance enjoy a nice waterfall without hiking. I am sure you have already thought or heard all that though.

I am sure I will pick up a new book. The one I have now is the third edition I believe (Triple Fall on cover) and it may need to be retired soon anyway. I have a few topo maps of De Witt and St. Charles from the 1920's that we ran across when tearing down a house on our property in De Witt. They sure are neat, we have them stuck in frames and hung on the wall down there for safe keeping.
