Perfick! That rim lighting around the bird is really nice and the composition is great. This really does look like a painting

Beautiful lighting and colours, but for my taste a little small in the frame.
I'd still love to have taken it.

The lighting has created a magical scene, captured expertly indeed, Craig.

Very artistic image with that rim of light around the bird and shallow DOF.
Well done!

Although the stonechat is rather small in the frame, this more than compensated for by the beautiful lighting and combination of colours on the background; definitely a shot worth having. I'm also struck by the lack of any obvious noise in the image although the iso is 2000. I am therefore wondering about your thoughts on the D3s as compare to the D3. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thank you all for your kind comments.Phil-I never owned a D3 as the last 12 months I have used the D300,I knew the D3 is a brillant camera, ref frame rate, focusing, noise etc.In the short time I have had the D3s I have found it to be brillant,it gives me about 30-40 mintues more shooting time in low light either side of sunset and dawn before the noise shows,I have taken good images up to iso 4000(see my post here-The ghost, shot @iso4000).The focusing is brillant, the detail in the raw files is sharp, buffer size is very good, the quiet setting on the shutter button works really well with wildlife.with the D300 I was missing images in low light/dawn/dusk but the D3s locks on and gives me that all important shutter speed. The camera has a number of image areas Fx,Dx,1.2 and a few more which are good to use in getting that bit closer but with a smaller raw size.I have nothing bad to say and love the camera,oh the video is very good too, hope that was not to long Phil and has helped any other questions send me an email

Nice work Craig.. A reflective spec in the eye would have made it for me but just enjoying the colours and lighting anyway.

Saw this previously Craig but didn't have time to comment. Worth returning to for the light and space. Well done.

Missed this earlier for some reason. That background is exquisite! I like the bird being small in the frame is this situation - if fact it needs to be small. If it were mine, I'd be tempted to crop a bit from the left, losing the first long grass stem, thus placing the bird very close to the edge - just a thought.
