The light was flat and dire as I tried to get some pics of this Grey Seal pup and then a shaft of sunlight broke through illuminating him and casting the far beach into shade. It completely changed the picture.

I love the pose of the seal but wonder if the vertical crop would have worked better given the direction its looking? - or maybe just another inch or so added to the top?

A very unusual shot, and a really laid back pose! Lovely.

Very nice indeed Robert, makes a change to see one laying in the grass too.A gorgeous pose, and I like the image as is.

An unusual shot definitely, but for me it doesn't quite work. No lack of detail, but I find myself trying to turn my head to see him horizontally. I've tried looking at it with a vertical crop, and without the grass it appears even more strange. Sorry, it's only an opinion.
thanks for all the comments. Mike.. no need to apologise, if it isn't your cup of tea thats fine. It's genuine opinions that matter. For you and others who have mentioned that the horizontal crop may not have worked here is a vertical crop.
Cheers all

Hi Robert, wonderful capture and superb light. I really prefer the first image as the vertical crop just 'hugs' the seal a little to much..

Hi, Robert,
prefer the vert crop, lets you lead yourself to the moody sky, great image
