Not too early for one in Boston like myself to start planning a trip to the San Juans. Everything I have read says average peak time for the wildflowers is mid July. I know it can be earlier, or later, so what I'm looking for is info as far as what kind of winter are you having in SW Colorado? Is the snowfall below, above, or average this winter? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

You might want to ask this question again in March or April as by then others will be able to better tell you how much or little snow the San Juans got this winter.

Regardless, this info might affect the peaks around the area, but the actual flower-laden areas should be at peak mid July.

There are way too many factors involved to determine when peak will be, snowpack, rain, thawing etc. Personally I think it has to do with more of the Spring rain. Just my 2 cents.

Bottom line, if you're looking for a historical trend, third week of July is a good time. Besides, if the flowers suck this summer (which I doubt, but I'm thinking positive), there's lots more than flowers to shoot in July in Colorado.

Thanks Todd That's the week we are leaning towards. And I agree that there is much more to photograph in Colorado. Precisely why I bought a place in Estes and tend to get out there 3 or 4 times a year. Will be there in Feb and June this year and most likely Oct. I just figured while my Better Half is doing the beach thing here in the East this summer, I'd try to get some of that above treeline beauty. Again, Thanks for your inpu. It's much appreciated.

I can't wait for the wildflower season this year, considering that I now live much closer to some of the best wildflower action in Colorado!
Does eveyone still have their (is it green?) ribbons on your car antennas? Would be great to recognize some RMNP'ers this summer (or even now lol).
