As long as were on a roll with the refuge at Ridgefield and avian shots, I'll contribute another. The high winds we have had these past few days really disrupted some wildlife with many birds voluntarily grounding themselves rather then face the air turbulence. I came across this Red-tailed hawk hanging onto his perch just off the road as winds gusted toward 50mph in the open areas. He's facing into the wind and you can see his chest feathers blown to either side. I couldn't believe how close I was able to get in the car as he kept evaluating the danger level (me) and if he should take flight or stay.
I do miss the waterfall, sea/landscape and floral postings. I look forward to the rains ending and more variety from our other PNW NPN members

Beautiful shot, Craig. I'm enjoying the avian show here for a change. And this really good with the head turn and seeing the chest feathers from behind. Another way to show wind. I like it!

Fantastic shot. Excellent background and I love the feathers blowing out. Nicely done.
I agree, we need to get some spring time going here so we can get a bit of landscape variety.

This is certainly the best "bird on a stick" shot I've ever seen. The texture on the back of that bird is wonderful.

I love the way the flank feathers are puffed out on the sides. Nice Craig!
