Earlier this month, I accompanied my wife to her seminar in Phoenix to get my first-ever chance to check out the Sonoran Desert. While it was great to bask in 70 degree temps every day, the weather didn't cooperate very well for photography in the golden hours. Most every day saw clouds roll in during the afternoon wiping out any chance of late day golden hour shooting (I couldn't shoot in the mornings as I had to chauffeur my wife to her seminar). I did get a couple of opportunities though, with the best one shown above. This was shot along the Salt River where it cuts through the Goldfield Mountains east of Phoenix.

Here's another nice reflection shot from close to the same area...

And a more traditional Sonoran scene of the Superstition Mountains...

And finally, I couldn't resist doing the iconic saguaro silhouetted at sunset thing. The pretty sunset caught me by surprise so it was all I could really do anyway...

I miss Phoenix! That first photo is killer, Guy. They're all nice but I think #1 is a standout. I'm glad you enjoyed the trip and made a few really nice images. We're planning to head down there in Feb. and/or March to catch the wildflowers. Thanks for the early inspiration!

Every time I visit my daughter in Phoenix I take a few mornings and afternoons to shoot. And I always come back with junk. Great images Guy. Persistence is the word of the day. Headed back there late March and this is some excellent inspirational material.

Very nice images, Guy. I really like 1 and 4. Very nice light in the 1st one, and love the silhouette in the 4th. Thanks for sharing these. They are great.

Very nice shots. I like #1 but my fav is #3. I like the diversity if the cactus, and the different colors. Just me :)

19 repliesThat is sure some sweet golden light in #1. And I am always a sucker for a saguaro at sunset. Nice set.
