Restless Sea
This image was taken at the Boiler Bay Viewpoint in Depoe Bay, Oregon. I love the foam that forms at the head of a "boiling" wave as it races to shore. This image was taken at ISO 200, f/16 @ 1/160 of a second using a Nikkor 18-70mm lens at 24mm. Your observations and comments are appreciated.

A beautiful scene Raymond. There seems to be an odd bit of brightness to an area toward the left side on the horizon. Other than that, a beautiful, dynamic and well balanced image in my mind.

Man, I just love the colors in the sea! Foam adds a treat. Well seen! Ken S

Very dramatic lighting, Raymond. I like the feeling this conveys. The one nit is that I feel the slice of land divides the image too evenly...Normally, I'd like to see either more sky or more ocean. In this case, that ocean is just fantastic and would love to see more of it with the land positioned in the upper third of the frame. If you crop out all the blue sky, leaving just the clouds directly above the land, you'll see what I mean. I really love that light on the ocean and the lighting on the land as well. Looking forward to seeing more of your work, Raymond.

Great capture. I would say though that the contrast between the emotions expressed in the waves do not do well with the bright blue and less dramatic sky. I think cropping out the sky here to create a sense of unity would do some good.

The above comments echo my thoughts. I especially like the sea color.

Nice shot, Raymond. I agree with the others: nix the blue in the sky with a crop (maybe keep just a spot or two of blue) and WOW, what a exciting difference. A well seen comp. And I too am enamored with the colors in the ocean.

Thank you for the many encouraging replies and comments. I have posted another version with the suggested crop. What do you think now? Over-cropped? Thanks again for your help.

Wow, that made a whole different image. I like how it now really accentuates the waves. Good crop, Raymond. :toast:
