Taken just before the snow came down. These birds are nearly always around at Elmley, but very difficult to get a close shot. This is one of my better attempts, but it's very much "Work in Progress".

Nikon D3 with Nikon 600/F4. 1/400 sec at F4, ISO 400, EV 0. Cropped to about 25% of original.

It's a great image with nice pastel colours. Compositionally superb for me. However I think the crop shows in the detail of the bird. I hope you share more of these.

Even allowing for the crop, this is far better than any I have managed with them, be it Elmley or anywhere else, so well done.

Certainly a great pose Mike and the composition is excellent too. It is looking a touch light on my screen but as usual that could be my set up.

Agree about the crop but I would still be very happy to have taken this shot. :wavey:

Bird in habitat - good pose, nice comp and a tasty subject - refreshing!

Hi Mike, this is a great capture. I do not know if it is my eyes or my screen, but the bird does not look sharp to me. :toast:

Hi Mike,

lovely shot and pose :toast:

Shame its a big crop as its taken the edge off the sharpness of the bird.

Time to get cammoed up and get closer

Nits covered but as it's a working progress I am looking forward to more. Nice capture nonetheless and time and effort will pay I'm sure.

Not bad at all considering the problems of distance. A definite step closer to the shot you want. :toast:
