Portland, Oregon, South Park Blocks, October, 2009
Canon 1DsIII, 17mm TSE, 30sec @ f/11, ISO 100
I recently picked up the Canon 17mm Tilt/Shift lens and wanted to put it through its paces. This is a shot taken in October of the park blocks in downtown Portland, with a sea of fallen leaves. I personally prefer the B&W version...comments appreciated.

Wow, something happened on the way to the web...I'm at work and this thing looks terrible...I think dropping down to 8 bits and sRGB really casued the blacks to block up...I'll rework and repost tonight...
Well, I updated it and still don't think it translates very well to the web. Ah well, it is what it is...
I won't critique the image, since you said it got mauled by sRGB conversion, but I am very curious to hear your impressions of that lens. I about peed my pants in joy when it was first announced, but the lack of filter capability was a buzz-kill shortly thereafter.
Have you tried any stitched panos yet? Putting three 17mm frames together has got to be freaky wide. Doing so, and still having all of the vertical lines correct makes me drool at the thought of taking that sucker down to the Redwoods. Lots of unique possibilities I imagine.

Aaron, I'll post an example of what that lens can do tomorrow with a mini review, but in a nutshell, it's an incredible lens. I haven't tried stitching yet with the 17, I have with the 24TSE, mainly because at 17mm, you get some distortion, stretching of the image at the two ends and stitching it all together would be a pain...
I had the new 14mm lens and sold it to get the 17. I don't regret that at all, it's that good.

David,
I remember seeing the color version last fall and I thought it was fantastic. I love the carpet of leaves.

Oh, I'm jealous!!! I would _love_ a tilt shift!
The original must be great, cause this is looking pretty good David. Nice shot!

Spectacular. Composition is very pleasing...the eye really moves around trying to catch it all....great lens.

I like it alot. I like a little crop off the top half way between the middle branch bending right and the top. :)

Thanks for all the great comments. I went back to the Raw file and reprocessed it. I am much happier with this outcome... Large Repost.
