RED TAILED HAWK
This is the same bird as Ryan from Jan 3rd over in Ridgefield.
Nikon D700, Nikon 300F4 1.5 tele/ Kirk Window Mount. ISO 800
Nik Software's Viveza2 really added a lot to this post processing of this image.
Too bad about the grass in the bottom, but oh well. It was a great experience being this close to such a magnificent, cooperative bird.

Jack, excellent capture, especially the positioning/pose of the hawk and the intensity of the gaze. Viveza definitely enhanced the image, although it also looks like it introduced some blue/cyan/magenta in the feathers. Could be the conversion to the web had something to do with that.

The grass in the foreground isn't too distracting. I love that stare though.

David,

I agree about the feathers, though the only thing I did with the Viveza was to put control points on the blue BG and darken it a bit and bring some green out ion the fence post. That's the benefit of Viveza, you can adjust certain points, and not the entire image.
Did you upgrade to viveza 2? its now 64bit!( and full screen as well)

The sharpness and pose is super. I like the capture of the eye. Agree w/colors ...beak and fence-post is in synch.

Jack,
The color cast of the feathers is the first thing that caught my eye. Other than that and the blurry piece of grass, I think it's pretty darn good!

I like the richness of it and the pose is classic raptorish. The grass is fine, its not like its a cigarette butt or something.

That drying out pose adds a lot. I agree about the colors.
