CANP Banner
Here's my second CANP Banner attempt. Pigeon Point Lighthouse, north of Santa Cruz on Hwy 1. In 1853, the Boston clipper ship "Carrier Pigeon" drifted aground on the headland than know as Punta de la Ballena, or Whale Point; after the wreck it became known as Pigeon Point. A whaling station was located on the point during the late 1800's, and lumber and produce were shipped from Pigeon Point Wharf until the 1820's. After numerous shipwrecks, a steam-operated fog signal with a 12" whistle was installed on the bluff in 1871. The 115' high brick lighthouse was built in the following year, its 9' Fresnel lens has 1,008 pieces of glass. Located next to the lighthouse is a 40-bed hostel.

Another great entry. Glad I'm not judging this contest!
