Heron
Evening everyone. Another image from my trip to Slimbridge on the weekend. This time a Heron stalking it's lunch, it made several attempts to grab a meal, but failed everytime while I was watching. I missed the shots of it entering and exiting the water, covered in droplets, nevermind....... Next time! All comments most welcome. :wavey:

Canon EOS 7D, Sigma 150-500mm lens.

I think I'd like to see a bit more space below and to the left on this one Paul and I'd also remove the oof duck immediately above the herons head. I find herons wonderful subjects but a bit of nightmare to compose so I could be totally wrong!

I agree that some extra space below to allow for the virtual legs or a reflection would improve it as a composition, but still a very well taken shot. The oof focus ducks didn't hit me until they were pointed out, but I can understand the observation. He is obviously unphased by people, so there could easily be a "next time" as you said. They are such beautiful birds that it is well worth trying again. :toast:

Hello Paul.

Its a nice shot and I love Herons, Its hard to comment sometimes as not being their at the point of taking I dont know what restrictions you faced. But I think I would have gone for a potrait composition and tried to include more of the reflection if that was possible.

Hi Guy, thanks for you're comment, I have got some Portait shots, it was my 1st inclination, but people were all around me, as well as 3 other photographers(with top class equipment)! This is my first time 'shooting' Herons, and to be honest I found them difficult to expose for, their necks are so long, making comp and sharpness a problem with a budget tele zoom.
Regards,
Paul. :wavey:
