Fall, 2009, Zion National Park
Canon 1DsIII, 200mm f/2.8L, 1 sec@f/16, ISO 100, Polarizer, Tripod

My wife and I spent the first week of November in Southern Utah. The conditions weren't ideal, lots of wind, which isn't great for capturing fall color. But one afternoon things calmed down. Some of you may remember an earlier version of this scene. Every time I go to Zion, I try to capture it again. I used a 200mm to get the compression, which is what really makes the scene. It's actually quite a long road but the compression helps to stack the elements close to each other. I also chose f/16 do ensure enough DOF, it resulted in a little diffraction, but nothing a little extra sharpening couldn't correct.

I'm posting this to get your opinion on the color cast. The original had a distinct yellow cast overall. I think this is much more realistic, what do you think? Full disclosure here, I am slightly color blind...I rely on my wife's good eyes and photoshop's color numbers to make sure I don't publish an overly pink baby!

Here's a Larger Version.

Great shot, but I do see a slight pink cast to the leaves on the ground and through the hole in the trees to the far back.

Thanks Jerry, I was afraid of that. I'll rework it tonight.

This will be awesome when reworked... that is a great stretch of road that I am sure I have traveled a few times myself..

I see what they see in the road, but those yellows and black sure are beautiful together. :)

Thanks. Interestingly, that road IS red. It includes rock from the red cliffs around the park. But as Jerry pointed out, there seems to be a tinge of pink in the evergreens in that hole in the middle...

I took a look at the file and two things stood out. First, the road really is red, as I mentioned, from the red rock they mix in the asphalt. They do that on all roads in Zion National Park. And the pink in the "hole in the middle" is of some Maples changing color...I made a minor adjustment, and am reposting here, but it's really not much different...

Here's a large repost...

The original looks good to me; I don't think I would have thought anything if you hadn't mentioned it. With that said I prefer the repost, but only because it's bigger.

I think I like the original post better, David. The red in the road looks better.
