Just wanted to introduce myself. Jay Knight Yosemite.
Because of my location please feel free to contact me for information that may be helpful for trip. Or get together and take some shots.
Thanks for sharing all the lovely images I've seen posted here. I hope to gain knowledge through this site.

Welcome aboard, Jay. If you have a thick skin and head to match, you will be in fine company around here.

This is a cool image. Can you share some techs? Film or digital conversion? Filters? It looks very IR with the tree glow.

Cool, I get take a guess on film or digi here!

Welome Jay :wavey:

Since it was taken the other day, my chances are good it was a digital IR capture with an IR filter but it's not very noisy so I'll guess not a Canon L lens. I shoot occasionally with an IR filter on L lenses and the noise sucks unlike what you see here.

Sorry Steve we typing at the same time thanks for the welcome. Surpisingly this was take with the 17-85mm canon is which I would rather use as a door stop but the girlfriend had to take all the good stuff out of the bag and put in hers.......still not sure how that works!!!!!!! I pay the grand and you take my stuff....guess I can't blame her

Welcome Jay,

not a giant iR fan, but this is one of the better ones I've seen, might have to do with the solid rock in the center surrounded by the ethereal trees.

Paul and Robert thanks for the kind welcome and comment.
Paul I must say since it is the biggest rock in the world......  Just saying :toast:
I know what you mean about ir it can be interesting or ugly...this one I'm on the fence about and need to do some highlight control and chop some of the foreground.and the sky is well flat..

I think you guys all missed the intention of the shot(and obvious hidden jewel).....the dark fallen tree in the foreground points right to the NPS pit toilet we all know and love

I hear that the worse the lens is the better it works for IR. Someone told me that here in the forum I think.
Posted by Jay Knight on January 26, 2010 at 10:32 PM
Yes i think this true a cheaper lens(or much older manual focus) with less coating would be better for ir however the 17-85 has some horid edge softness.Which is pretty visible in the above 1st shot.....maybe I'm asking to much.....I do think my copy has some helicoil damage when focusing via live view.....there is major shifting going on....

Jay

Lets see if I can put another photo in here....a small personal victory :toast: :toast:

Welcome aboard Jay! A great image - of which I didn't notice pride of the NPS... (thankfully.) Now you mentioned "Eagle Creek" picnic area. I haven't heard that name - is that the same as the El Capitan picnic area? The location looks like that spot and I don't know of any other picnic grounds. It's also the base camp if you will, for Galen's Horsetail falls image.

Anyway, please do fill us in on your residency of the valley! Most folks here frequent Yosemite and I for one would love to hear your connection. I mean can you get me preferred seating at the Mountain room?

Seriously, tells us more about what you shoot and all that good stuff. Welcome.

Lon thanks for the fine welcome.
The eagle creek picnic area is the closest one to el cap sits between el cap east buttress and the three brothers. Yes it is the one the better jumping points for the horsetail falls shot which season is coming up with all the weather it should be good.
As far as dining arrangement at the mountian room if your buying I can get you the best seat in the house. I do work for the concessions. But my job is in logistics a glorified bean counter with a fleet of semis. So if you need anything to the high camps or toulumne or a lifetime supply of key chains......that would be me.

For shooting pretty much anything but people...I like people but I feel better when they are not in my pictures. Obvioulsy with my location I can shoot some of the coolest landscape in the world....but work in heaven is still work baby!!!
Please feel free to stop by and say Hi on the next trip.
