I am going on a month long photo odyssey starting next Monday. Yippie!! First to Death Valley for a week, then picking up my brother in Las Vegas and shooting around Zion and Bryce for another week, then taking him back to Las Vegas. That leaves me with two more weeks to toodle around southern Utah/Arizona. I'm wondering if there is much of a chance there will be any wildflower activity in southern California to shoot on my way back, last week of February. I reviewed the posts from last's year's Carol Leigh's wildflower hotline, and most of the activity didn't start to pick up until the first and second weeks in March. Any tips on when and where the earliest wildflower activity might happen this year?

Also, if anyone wants to join me in southern Utah/Arizona, I could pick you up or meet up with you in Las Vegas on Sunday, February 14.

Geesh, after all this rain I bet we are going to have a great Spring display. I would say check out Garrapta Calla Lilies and the Big Sur coast in general. Here is Feb. 10, 2009:

Probably a bit early for most places. But you never know. The poppies start sprouting in the hills also, possibly Merced Canyon.

Tony, are you soliciting dates? (NatureMatch.com) That's Valentines Days, the day I bet half of us are imprisoned  Hope my girl doesn't see this. :wavey: honey

Sounds like a fun trip!

One of the advantages of coming of age in the 60's was that Valentine's Day was ridiculed as a stupid bourgeoise invention to sell cards and gifts. I never paid any attention to it, announced that to my wife 32 years ago, and never looked back. It's not too late....

You might check with Anza Borrego Desert State Park if that's not too far out
of yor way in Southern California. I've heard that the park sometimes gets
wildflowers in late Feb.

Actually your best bet would be Death Valley and it's surrounding environs, in California or Nevada. Widlflower blooms start early in the Park. I'd go through the Red Rock State Park near Las Vegas jog Up to Mt. Charleston for a breath of winter then down again and around into Death Valley through Beatty Nevada. But that's just me.
