Ive been stuck in the house today because of the ice, sleet, and snow. So I have been chasing birds for most of the day. I'd love to get out tomorrow but I don't see it happening.
I love the streaks of sleet in the background. ISO 400 but there is a little noise because of the significant crop I had to make. These birds are pretty small.

I like the sleet streaks. I couldn't get mine to streak.Glad to see I'm not the only one shooting birds today. Karla and I did go out and sled for a little while. We're still kids at heart.
Here's one of mine. My flash over powered the image, but it was also a bit dark outside and I had no choice.
I'm all for using flash if the bird is close enough. I was covered up with those little white-throated sparrows today. I'm glad you couple of kids got out to do some sledding today, we didn't do any today but planning on it tomorrow.

Nature is out there waiting for our attention. Backyards are excellent places to photograph on bad weather days. Your Junco and Sparrow photos are excellent examples. I often use flash-fill in such situations since my back deck faces the wrong direction (south) to get good natural light.
The White Throated Sparrow is a good capture; however, the flash sparkles on the ice is a bit distracting. A little selective lightening of the bird would make it stand out better against the background.

I really like the rain drops blur effect in your first image. There is a line between sharpening and noise that's always hard to draw. I usually sharpen the bird itself and de-noise everything but the bird when shooting in dim light. Still birds are tough and I get frustrated with them all the time... The bird with the berry it interesting too.
