After the recent storms we not only get the good photographic opportunities during the process, but we will no doubt reap the benefits the rest of this year as well. As of Friday the Sierra snow pack was determined to be at 115% of the norm for this date each year. It was most recently surveyed at about 85% a couple weeks ago, so a very big boost overall from the ongoing storms presently.
This time last year the total snow pack survey was listed at only 61%. With the pending storms left before April time frame it looks to be an excellent year coming up for the spring wildflower season as well.

Thanks Paul, Does that report show what we would be if it does not snow again for the rest of season? Sounds pessimistic but we have had month long lulls in the winter with out storms in the past. Looks like something is coming in next week!

I have a feeling we'll see so much flowers in photos this spring here at CANP.

Steve, this article today did not state any predictions based upon any type of "lull", which of course as you pointed out does definitely happen. The water folks keep our state on a conservation basis year around anymore just as a result of our gross population, gross can be used here as you see fit.
Also as you mentioned, there are more storms on the current horizon. So at this time things look pretty darn good overall. Nothing like a good El Nino to make things nice and green everywhere.

Yeah, I think its going to be a great Spring. Last year wasn't too bad for the lack of rain. Merced canyon exploded with poppies along with the Antelope Valley area. But this year with the El Nino pattern we could experience some extremes like Yosemite Valley flooding from the explosive waterfalls and snow runoff.

I just checked the weather for Big Sur and we have 8 days of rain in the 10 day forecast. So I don't think we have to worry too much about faucet being turned off yet.

All this rain was a long time in coming. Our state and land can definately use the water.

At least up in the Bay Area, it looks like rain for the next 10 days. That means snow up in the mountains. Regards.
