Dunnock Plumage
Hi all, thought I'd try something different. I spent a lovely day in the company of a good friend photographing birds. This image of a Dunnock's Plumage is a crop from the full bird. It's a little different, so all comments are most welcome! :wavey:

Canon EOS 7D, Sigma 150-500mm lens. Cropped from full frame image.

Paul,

I like the detail you've captured here although I feel the image may benefit from a slightly larger aspect, which may reveal some more patterns in the plumage.

This doesn't quite work for me Paul. I can see what you were trying but I think this sort of thing needs to be pin sharp with plenty of depth of field and this doesn't really have that depth. The mid tone browns in the centre of the picture looks a bit soft. Also, I think it may have been better compositionally if you had not included the paler feathers at bottom right. A commendable idea nonetheless.

Thanks for you're honesty , and comments both! Will take it on board, and try harder next time.
Cheers,
Paul.

Hello Paul.

I have to go along with Robert on this one but I do think you are thinking in the right area as detail shots work really well. I think you would be better of trying larger birds for this sort of work as we can get nice patterns and detail with out getting to close and this makes the detail look finer and nicer.
