I have finally got around to thinking about giving up slide(transparency) lectures and using digital presentations.
Ihave aquired a reasonable laptop , and a projector is ordered, but I am at a loss as to which software for compiling the shows to use. Powerpoint is not really suitable.
Idon't want to get too complicated with video inserts etc.
I need to be able to pause the show when I wish, by remote, or wireless mouse action. In other words I don't want to sit behind the projector, I need to be able to stand at the front and control the advance of the slides- more or less like the old days.
I have heard that "Pics to exe" is very good.
Any advice much appreciated.

A vote for pictures2exe here... I have a niggling feeling that Proshow Gold may not allow you to manually change images....

Ever thought about using a wireless/bluetooth mouse John, then I expect Powerpoint would fulfil your needs, it's quite a powerful programme these days. the wireless/bluetooth will give you the ability to walk about. You can also buy remote dongles etc.. I am a Mac user and so use Keynote and a remote for my presentations again very powerful, no use to you but I have seen others use similar with Microsoft machines.

Personally I find that PowerPoint is fine, it does allow you to include the odd page of text, graphs or whatever as well as pictures very easily.
I've used a few slideshow programs over the years on both PC's and Macs and have found that, especially for the cost, Pictures2Exe (P2E) is by far the best around. Igor and his crew are continually improving the software too. I can even run P2E slideshows on my Macs now - I'm just awaiting the day they release a full blown version for the Mac so I can create them on there too. If you happen to want to sync to music, then P2E is one of the very few that will actually sync down to split seconds & stay in sync without you having to resort to using video editing software.
Powerpoint? Best use that if you want to inflict death by bulletpoints on your audience .

I actually do all mine in Flash John, but that's only because I've learned it the hard way for web development.
If you are up for a challenge then Flash will give you the best results, but if it's instant gratification you're after then I think P2E has a slight edge over ProShow.
All the best with the projector - handle it with care and love otherwise it'll bite you in the bum at just the right moment for maximum impact

Nick,
Sad to say it is not the bullet points that have them running for the door, its the pictures!
