On a Saturday morning a couple weeks ago after the big storms, I snuck out early to catch the sunrise. I planned on going to a spot I had in mind at Emerald Bay, but 89 was closed a couple miles before where I needed to get to. Severely disappointed I turned around and drove down a side road which happened to have a clearing large enough to really see the sky. Not exactly what I was looking for, but it was still a peaceful spot to watch. After looking at a map I think I have a good idea of where to head next time.
That was about all the photography I did on this trip. With all the fresh powder it was difficult to force myself away from awesome skiing conditions
Matt, Very nice sky and peaceful setting. Skiing must have been fantastic. Best Regards.

Very peaceful Mat, looks like a great place for snowshoeing.
I take it was closed due to avalanche danger or just snow or ice. That sucks, it happened to me once and I just ran the 2 miles to get there, never again in snow boots!

the larger version looks so much better Mat...sorry to hear that 89 was closed...actually I was planning to shoot there in winter sometimes...do they close for the entire winter or was it a temporary closure ?

Hi Debjit,
No it's not closed for the entire winter. I was there last winter and it was open, but didn't come up with an inspired comp. I also discovered the need for snowshoes!

Nice Mat,
Beautiful colors, the exposure looks right on.

A very pleasing image to look at. The colors and mood captured here are very nice.
